What potion gives a four year old the superpowers to chat merrily in French to his father, answer his nanny in Spanish, and then joke to his friends in English? The secret is a witch’s brew of language immersion, emotion, humor, environment, and every small thing that makes a child want to practice playing with his new language. It is not an easy process. Leave out a snip or add too many snails then the potion goes flat and the child passes some of his best years to learn a new language.

I'm Francois Thibaut, founder of The Language Workshop for Children and producer of the multi award-winning Professor Toto Language Education Series. I pioneered the structured play method to teach languages to very young children. Since 1973 my LWFC programs have been bringing the gift of languages to youngsters aged 6 months to 12.

My dream is to have every child in this country become fluent in at least two languages. This blog shares my experiences and real-life stories. It lets readers ask questions and gives advice so parents, teachers, and caregivers can create as many multi-lingual children as we are fortunate enough to develop.
